Cannot select which location field is used

We're building a site that uses a field_location CCK field for venues, and we're trying to use a different one, field_profile_location for the user's profile.

We cannot get content profile to use field_profile_location in the registration form under any circumstances. Instead, the module automatically assumes that field_location is to be used.
